Finance- Accounting Operations Manager

Location: Rosemont/Chicago, IL

Summary/Objective

The Accounting Operations Manager is a hands-on role supporting key financial processes and maintaining internal controls around the financial applications: general ledger and accounting subledger activities, reporting tools such as WINGS, JDD/GL Model, AP Distribution reports, etc. This position liaisons with IT personnel and the Finance user group to ensure validity, timeliness and completeness of information. Additionally, the position entails leveraging technology and other best practices to improve efficiencies/effectiveness of the accounting operations, including but not limited to appropriate documentation. Assistance with reporting may be requested during critical periods, peak times of staff absences and audits/regulatory examinations. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee general ledger support. Specifically, provide oversight to chart of accounts, making recommendations for processing activity, understanding relationships to quickly identify key activities/projects and retrieve necessary data.
    o Work with IT to establish/maintain protocols to keep ledgers and relationships in sync (i.e. Statutory, GAAP and Primary ledgers)
    o Oversee loading of third party vendor files and related balancing including resolution of any issues
    o Liaison with process owners regarding BOG’s (business operating guidelines) to properly identify impacts on accounting and establish necessary controls; ensure proper mapping between TPA charts and Oracle
    o Maintenance of period closings and rollovers – specifically year-end and reset of new year                                                                                                                    o Provide oversight of Oracle patch testing and sign-off prior to move to production                                                                                                                            o Provide assistance with other interface testing of changes to TPA feeds that impact accounting data
  • Provide MAR assistance and testing in following areas
    o User access to Oracle – general ledger and accounts payable modules
    o Chart of Account maintenance including changes in reporting mappings
    o Journal Entry testing of supporting documentation/authorizations
    o Suspense monitoring following up on unusual and/or aged items
    o Oversight of state page processing, state tax reporting (collection of underlying data), standard data calls received by Compliance unit
  • Identification of accounting operational efficiencies
    o Establishment of standard reports; includes liaison with end users to draft specifications and produce final outputs
    o Assist with defining adhoc reports, working with IT and end users to ensure accuracy, validity and timeliness of deliverables; assist with year end requests from external auditors or regulatory authorities when under examination
    o Assist in documentation of accounting processes; providing supervision and training as necessary
    o Make recommendations for changes in processes to coordinate between various departments, affiliated companies and TPA’s; present issues and related solutions with any resource requirements working with the Controller with respect to timing and implementation.
  • Coordinate resources for varying accounting projects
    o Design/implementation of budget process, collection of data from cost centers, balancing of output and control of versions; maintenance of documentation of underlying rationale to assist in variance analysis
    o KPI development and establishment of reporting; coordination with Capital Planning and Modeling, IT, Finance personnel
    o Participate in development of Data Warehouse – focus on future enhancements ensuring proper data is captured and defined to meet reporting needs
    o Participation on corporate projects for improved, consistent reporting across Kuvare
  • Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.

Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting/Finance related discipline
  •  Strong organizational and analysis skills
  •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  •  Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  •  A minimum of 4 years of insurance/reinsurance accounting experience
  •  CPA, FLMI designation or participation in LOMA program a plus
  • PC literacy with knowledge of technological tools and their applications
  • Proven understanding of financial reporting requirement
